PPARGC1A gene polymorphism and its association with obesity-related metabolic traits in Serbian adolescent population

PPARGC1A is involved in many metabolic processes including normal mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidation of glucose and lipids transport into skeletal muscles. Previous researches linked this polymorphism with the higher risk developing type 2 diabetes, syndrome obesity. The aim study was to investigate association Gly482Ser body mass index (BMI), fasting levels lipid profile Serbian adolescents. included 147 boys 150 girls, 15 years age. Anthropometric biochemical parameters were recorded. Cardiovascular malignant diseases, cerebral palsy genetics criteria for exclusion. Genotyping performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length (RFLP) assay. results showed that carriers GG genotype had statistically mean values TC compared who GA+AA genotypes (p=0.033). However, statistical significance not obtained other analyzed parameters. Furthermore, group overweight obese children, LDL-C observed all adolescents, as well girls. No correlation BMI, blood triglycerides. To confirm these results, further research larger sample size non-genetics factor taking consideration, would be great interest.
